Welcome To Danao City....!

Danao is located in the northern part of Cebu facing the Camotes Islands. It lies in the eastern coast between Compostela and Carmen and bounded on the west by the municipalities of Balamban, Asturias and Tuburan. It is 8.20 kilometers from Carmen to the North; 97.0 kilometers from Balamban (via Toledo City); 92.14 kilometers from Asturias (via Lugo); 7.80 kilometers from Compostela to the South; and 33.1 kilometers from Cebu City.

Capt. Del Rosario went to said places to perform his duties. Riding on a horse on his way to the north after a place called Cotcot, he came upon a few natives who were resting and taking time bathing their carabaos in one of the many lakes in the area. Dismounting from his horse, the Captain took his rest and in a short while struck conversation with the surprised natives. Pointing vertically his forefinger to the ground where they stood, the captain inquired just what was the name of the place, with the impression that the stranger might have asked the name of the small lakes where their carabaos were resting, one of the native instantly replied: "DANAWAN" (a Cebuano dialect for small lake) which, according to the story, on account of the Captain’s defective sense of hearing, only heard and recorded the first syllable DA-NAO. Thus begun the early naming of the place DANAO.
Transport
The means of transportation within the city proper are motorized tricycles and pedicabs.
A few people are engaged in the making of sidecars for bicycle. There is no big transportation industry/company in the city; however, there are few auto repair and bodybuilding shops operating in the area.
- Power
The city is being supplied with electric power by the CEBECO II, that gets its power from
The National Power Corporation. As of 1986, there were 3, 568 households or 28% of the total population having electrical connections. The average monthly energy consumption per household in 1986 was 120,338-kilowatt hours. For the entire city, the average monthly energy consumption including the commercial and industrial establishments was 349,011-kilowatt hours.
- Water
Poblacion, Looc and Suba. Only 30% of the households in the Poblacion are served by the system. About 13% have individual faucets, while 17% are using the public faucets. One of the problems plaguing the system is the water pressure. A great number of households, about 40% are getting water from dug wells, springs, or rivers. Others have artesian wells as sources of water.
The two major sources of water in the city are the Tuburan Springs and Quisol Springs. The volume of supply is estimated to be 2,254 liters per minute (or 700 gallons per minute). At present, there are 1,221 households having water connections with the annual collections at P490,236.00.
- Transportation

The city’s road network consists of 12.1 kilometers of national roads; 12.2 kilometers of municipal roads; and 97.5 kilometers of barangay roads. There are a total of 6 concrete bridges within the city’s boundary.
Sto. Tomas de Villanueva church,Danao City Cebu
Sto. Tomas de Villanueva church Danao City Cebu. Since the Philippines was explored and conquered by the Spaniards there are a great deal of old churches. One of the examples is the Sto. Tomas de Villanueva Church in Danao. This church was originally built in 1755 by Fr. Manuel de Santa Barbara and was made up of numerous materials including sugar cane and rocks from the sea. Most of the church was destroyed in 1942 during WWII, though the front of the church remained intact. The building was rebuilt in 1946, and in 1981 it went underwent a major reconstruction.
FISH PORT
The new Fish Port, which is called Macapagal-Durano Fish Port in located right in front of the plaza. The new fishport is really nice and clean. Also, it has ample park space for those who wish to drop by to use the clean rest rooms. By the way, remember the tinap-anan restaurants on the beach before you reach the Danao Church? Well, all restaurants have been transferred to the second floor of the new building. Isn’t that amazing? Hehehe.

A major project that would benefit the Danaoanons was inaugurated by no less than President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
The president, with Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, led the opening and blessing of the P86.4 million Macapagal-Durano Fish Port in Danao City, northern Cebu.
Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia personally met the president upon her arrival at the Mactan Cebu International Airport. With the fish port, the economy of the city is expected to boost as it will serve as a drop-off point for fish catch in the Visayas for distribution in Cebu.

KARANSA SA DANAO
Every third Sunday of September, Danao City celebrated its fiesta with its very own Karansa Festival!
A competition parade...
Mutya ng Danao
The church is very crowded during fiesta, a proof that Danawanons are really religious, praying for our paton saint, SAnto Tomas de Villanueva

Danao Civic Center
The Danao Civic Center is Danao City’s multi-purpose gym. It has a huge court and a classy interior. The gym’s facade was all glassy that this new project totally stood out amongst the ‘ruin-like’ structures in Danao. Personally, though the building somewhat reminds you that sports transcends time, I guess, it just doesn’t fit in. I mean, Danao is known for its classy, laid-back, ancestral feel. With countless old buildings, old streets, old plazas and all. Still, it’s a nice structure. =)

THE BEACHES
If you want a quick getaway from the fast city life, pack your bags and go to Danao City. Just an hour away from Cebu City, Danao City offers a unique hideaway which will surely relax your weary mind.
El Salvador has been around for quite a while now. However, major improvements weren’t started until a few years ago (maybe 2004 or 2005). El Salvador used to have these small Wigwam Huts (Php400). Now, bigger and better rooms take the place of these “roofed beds”.

Another very interesting resort I discovered recently is the Intosan Resort in Danao City. Unlike the El Salvador beach resort, Intosan is a few kilometers from the main road. So, people who visit the resort are those who’ve tried it or those who know how to get there. But just follow the small signs along the way and you’ll get there in no time.
The resort is awesome. It does not have a sound system and people are not allowed to play loud music. According to the woman who accommodated us, the regulars of Intosan are city-dwellers who want peace and quiet.
The resort has very nice rooms with huge beds. They have many interconnected pools, awesome slides, and other cool stuff one can find in waterparks.
The resort charges Php120 per person [entrance]. But, if you get a room, you [number of persons for the type of room] won’t have to pay the entrance fee. The place is awesome. Check it out.
I really like to swim in this kind of swimmingpool..
Just a few walks away from our house...
Me and my cousins during our reunion..
I have lots of memories in this place, I was born here, and I was raised here...
So I will never abandon this place. . .
So, til next time... Hope to see you soon in Danao City...
I'm proud to be a Danawanon :)
